RTA Enhances Access To Al Warqa’a Area With New Entrances And Road Improvements

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is enhancing Al Warqa’a's connectivity by adding new entry and exit points from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This project includes upgrading an internal road network of eight kilometres to accommodate increased traffic. Once finished, the road capacity will rise by 5,000 vehicles per hour, reducing travel time by 80 percent—from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes—and shortening journey distances from 5.7 kilometres to 1.5 kilometres.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, stated, "The new entrance and exit points for Al Warqa’a area align with RTA’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, including roads, lighting, and rainwater drainage systems in residential areas to handle increasing traffic volumes. This project will benefit over 350,000 residents and includes the construction of a new access point from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Additionally, the scope includes the development of Al Warqa’a 1 Street and the conversion of existing roundabouts into signalised junctions with advanced specifications to alleviate traffic congestion. These improvements are projected to boost the capacity of Al Warqa’a 1 Street by 30 percent."

RTA Improves Access to Al Warqa’a Area

Earlier this year, RTA completed projects in Al Qusais Industrial Areas 1 through 5. The work involved constructing 32 roads over a span of 10 kilometres and installing lighting along more than 43,000 metres. This initiative increased road capacity by 200 percent, raising traffic volume from 500 vehicles per hour to 1,500 vehicles per hour in both directions.

The improvements in Al Qusais have enhanced connectivity between industrial areas and four main roads: Amman Street, Beirut Street, Aleppo Street, and Damascus Street. This has improved access for over 320 workshops, numerous residential buildings, retail shops, and educational zones. The area benefits a population density of around 60,000 residents.

RTA is also working on internal roads in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. A cycling track spanning 16 kilometres will connect with existing tracks nearby. In an earlier phase, RTA upgraded roads around the School of Scientific Research in Al Warqa’a 4 and developed roads serving the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment project with its 136 villas.

These enhancements include pedestrian pathways, pavements, parking entrances for residents, along with lighting works. Additionally, a completed cycling track measuring 7.4 kilometres encourages cycling as a sustainable transport option supporting first and last-mile strategies.

The ongoing developments reflect RTA's dedication to improving infrastructure across Dubai's residential areas. By enhancing road networks and introducing alternative transport options like cycling tracks, RTA aims to support sustainable urban growth while easing traffic congestion for residents.
