Muslim Council Of Elders Advocates For Enhanced Global Humanitarian Efforts
On World Humanitarian Day, observed annually on August 19th, the Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has urged for increased global efforts to protect millions of innocent civilians suffering from severe humanitarian conditions. These conditions are due to shortages of food, water, and medicine caused by escalating wars, conflicts, and crises worldwide.
The Muslim Council of Elders stressed that humanitarian work is a fundamental duty endorsed by all divine religions, especially Islam. The religion advocates for compassion and solidarity as essential aspects of our shared humanity. The Council emphasised the need to rebuild hope for millions affected by crises, disasters, wars, and conflicts.

The Council also highlighted the importance of protecting humanitarian workers. They called for support and assistance for these workers and an end to attacks against them. This protection is crucial to ensure they can continue their vital work without fear.
The Muslim Council of Elders is actively promoting values such as dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. They aim to raise awareness about the significance of humanitarian and social solidarity. Extending help to every human being, particularly the vulnerable and those most in need, aligns with these values.
This initiative follows the principles outlined in the Document on Human Fraternity. This document was signed by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi in 2019. It underscores the importance of mutual respect and cooperation among different faiths.
Addressing Refugee Crises
The ongoing crises have resulted in a rise in refugees, displaced persons, and individuals who have lost their homes. The Muslim Council of Elders calls for international efforts to address these issues urgently. Providing necessary resources like food, water, and medicine is critical to alleviating their suffering.
By focusing on these key areas—humanitarian work as a religious duty, protecting aid workers, promoting dialogue and tolerance—the Muslim Council aims to foster a more compassionate world. Their efforts are geared towards ensuring that those affected by conflicts receive the help they desperately need.
World Humanitarian Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility towards those suffering from dire conditions due to conflicts and crises. The call from the Muslim Council of Elders highlights the urgent need for global solidarity in addressing these humanitarian challenges.
