Muslim Council Of Elders Urges Immediate Global Action To Address Refugee Crisis And Support Rights
The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has highlighted the refugee crisis as a significant moral challenge. It is not just a temporary humanitarian issue but a test of global commitment to justice and compassion. The Council urged for immediate international efforts to create fair solutions, provide aid, and establish binding laws to protect refugees and ensure their dignity.
On World Refugee Day, observed every year on June 20, the Council stressed that the refugee crisis involves more than just statistics. It represents the deep suffering of individuals and families who have lost their basic rights and safety. The worsening situation for refugees due to ongoing global conflicts is a major concern for the Council.
The Muslim Council of Elders praised innovative humanitarian efforts that offer protection and aid to refugees and displaced people. These initiatives address essential needs like shelter, food, medicine, and education while ensuring full human rights are respected. The Council also acknowledged the crucial support provided to host countries managing the significant responsibility of accommodating refugees.
The Document on Human Fraternity, signed in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and the late Pope Francis, called for easing the suffering of refugees, marginalised individuals, the poor, and those without homes or shelter. This document emphasises assistance without exclusion or discrimination.
The Council's statement reflects a deep concern for the plight of refugees amid ongoing global crises. It calls for urgent international action to alleviate their suffering and uphold their right to live with dignity. The emphasis is on creating fair solutions and providing necessary aid while establishing binding international laws for protection.
