Enhancing Global Peace: Muslim Council Of Elders And Singapore's MUIS Collaborate
The Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, welcomed a delegation from the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) and leaders from Singapore's Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth at the Council's headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The delegation was led by Kadir Maideen Mohammed, CEO of MUIS. Discussions centred on enhancing cooperation to promote tolerance and coexistence.
Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam commended Singapore’s model of pluralism, diversity, and coexistence. He appreciated MUIS's efforts in organising Islamic affairs and addressing issues concerning Muslims in Singapore. He emphasised the Muslim Council of Elders' dedication to fostering communication with Muslims globally through various initiatives.

These initiatives include the Document on Human Fraternity, the East-West Dialogue, the Emerging Peacemakers Forum, the Faith Pavilion at COP28, and efforts to empower religious leaders in tackling global challenges. These diverse initiatives aim to promote dialogue and strengthen coexistence values.
Kadir Maideen Mohammed expressed gratitude for the Muslim Council of Elders' efforts under Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb's leadership in promoting dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence. He praised initiatives focused on empowering youth by developing their talents, honing their skills, and supporting their peacemaking efforts.
He highlighted that His Eminence the Grand Imam's visit to Singapore in 2018 was met with great enthusiasm from all segments of Singaporean society. This visit underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation between MUIS and the Muslim Council of Elders.
Religions for Development and Peace
Kadir Maideen Mohammed also noted MUIS's eagerness to collaborate with the Muslim Council of Elders through initiatives like "Religions for Development and Peace." He stressed this initiative's significance in strengthening religious leaders' roles in development and peace issues.
The meeting underscored both organisations' commitment to promoting tolerance, coexistence, and dialogue among different cultures and religions. The collaboration aims to address misconceptions and spread enlightened, moderate thought globally.
The discussions highlighted mutual respect for each other's efforts in fostering peaceful coexistence. Both parties recognised the importance of continued cooperation to achieve shared goals in promoting global peace and understanding.
