Muslim Council Of Elders Urges Global Unity In Combating Terrorism
The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, has urged for global unity to combat extremism and terrorism. They advocate for eliminating these threats by addressing their ideological roots through dialogue, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.
In a statement marking the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism on August 21, the Council reaffirmed its strong stance against violence, hatred, and terrorism. These acts contradict the teachings of Islam, all divine religions, and international laws.

The Council stressed that tackling extremism and terrorism is a shared religious, human, and moral duty. It requires collective efforts from the global community to be effective.
The Council also called for support for survivors of terrorist attacks and those affected by hate speech. They emphasised helping these individuals reintegrate positively into society by addressing their psychological and physical traumas.
Efforts should focus on assisting them in reclaiming their normal lives after enduring such impacts.
Promoting Peace Initiatives
The Council highlighted its significant efforts through various initiatives to promote peace and human coexistence. These include correcting misconceptions, dismantling extremist ideologies, and raising awareness about the dangers posed by violent groups.
Among these initiatives are seven rounds of dialogue between East and West and over 15 international peace convoys across different continents. These efforts encourage Muslims to integrate positively into their communities.
Emerging Peacemakers Forum
The Emerging Peacemakers Forum was launched to enhance youth's role in promoting peace and human coexistence. This initiative aims to empower young people to become active participants in fostering a culture of peace.
These initiatives culminated in the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity in Abu Dhabi in 2019 by Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb and Pope Francis. This landmark document asserts that religions have never been a cause for wars or a source of hatred or extremism.
Document on Human Fraternity
The Document on Human Fraternity calls for an end to supporting terrorist movements, considering such support a crime against international peace and security. It is one of the most significant documents in modern history regarding interfaith harmony.
The Council's statement underscores its unwavering commitment to promoting peace, tolerance, and coexistence while rejecting all forms of violence and terrorism.
