Grand Imam Of Al-Azhar, UAE Minister Forge Path For Enhanced Cooperation

His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders, welcomed Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, at his Abu Dhabi residence. They discussed ways to enhance mutual cooperation.

The Grand Imam commended the UAE's efforts in supporting the causes of the Ummah and promoting dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence. He praised Sheikh Nahyan's initiatives in this regard, noting the close collaboration between the Ministry of Tolerance and the Muslim Council of Elders. This partnership aims to consolidate common human values and foster a culture of coexistence and civilisational dialogue.

Sheikh Nahyan appreciated the Grand Imam's contributions to showcasing Islam's moderation and tolerance. He highlighted efforts to counter extremism and terrorism, correct misconceptions, and engage constructively with Muslims worldwide. The Minister also emphasised the significance of the Grand Imam's visit to Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia.

During his visit to Indonesia, the Grand Imam announced the "Alliance of Religions for Development and Peace" initiative. Sheikh Nahyan affirmed that under the Grand Imam's leadership, the Muslim Council of Elders significantly promotes dialogue, tolerance, and coexistence values.

The UAE Minister congratulated the Grand Imam on the 10th anniversary of establishing the Muslim Council of Elders. In response, the Grand Imam presented Sheikh Nahyan with a special edition commemorative medal marking this milestone.

Shielding Youth from Extremism

The Grand Imam stressed the importance of protecting youth from extremist ideologies while instilling values, ethics, and loyalty to their nation. He highlighted ongoing efforts to foster a culture that supports these principles.

Judge Mohamed Abdelsalam, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Elders, also attended this meeting. The discussions underscored both parties' commitment to enhancing mutual cooperation in promoting tolerance and coexistence.

This meeting reflects a shared dedication to fostering dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions. It underscores ongoing efforts to promote peace and counter extremism globally.
