Emirates SkyCargo Partners With Teleport To Enhance Trade Connectivity In Southeast Asia
Emirates SkyCargo has partnered with Teleport, AirAsia's exclusive cargo partner, to enhance trade between Southeast Asia and the global market through Dubai. This collaboration was formalised at IATA's World Cargo Symposium by Badr Abbas of Emirates SkyCargo and Pete Chareonwongsak of Teleport. The agreement aims to improve connectivity and expand ASEAN businesses' reach by increasing cargo interline options and block space agreements.
Teleport consolidates the bellyhold capacity of all AirAsia airlines into a single network, making it Southeast Asia's largest air logistics network. This includes Malaysia-based AirAsia Berhad, AirAsia X Berhad, Indonesia AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, Thai AirAsia X, and AirAsia Cambodia. Additionally, it operates three dedicated freighter aircraft and partners with over 40 other airlines.

This partnership allows Emirates SkyCargo to extend its services beyond primary airports to secondary and tertiary destinations in Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, Teleport gains access to Emirates' extensive global network of over 145 destinations, focusing on Europe, Africa, and the US. This collaboration enhances both parties' capabilities in serving their customers more effectively.
Badr Abbas commented on the partnership: "This strategic partnership with Teleport and the AirAsia Group of airlines is an evolution of that commitment, enabling us to better serve our customers with increased capacity, more flexibility and access into new markets in Asia, combined with enhanced connectivity across our vast global network."
Pete Chareonwongsak expressed pride in collaborating with Emirates: "Our partnership with Emirates, which is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia for them, is a source of great pride as we collaborate with a leading global partner. This will enable the expansion of both our respective air networks, supporting Southeast Asia's growing exports and facilitating the movement of e-commerce from China, through our connectivity beyond Southeast Asia, to the Middle East, Africa and Europe."
E-commerce is projected to increase its share of Southeast Asia's air cargo volumes from 11% to 20% by 2029. This growth is driven by lightweight shipments replacing bulk freight and rising demand for express delivery services.
Manufacturing Hub
Southeast Asia plays a crucial role in global manufacturing for electronics, smart gadgets, fashion textiles, machines, automobiles, and pharmaceuticals. The region's outbound air cargo reached 2.5 million tons in 2024. Increased flows are anticipated towards the Middle East and Europe due to manufacturing growth and improved infrastructure.
The partnership between Emirates SkyCargo and Teleport supports shifting supply chains as Southeast Asia strengthens its manufacturing capabilities. Enhanced logistics infrastructure further boosts this development.
