Zayed International Airport Processes 1 Million Passengers With IDEMIA’s Biometrics
In a significant development for air travel, Zayed International Airport has achieved a milestone by processing over one million passengers through Abu Dhabi's new terminal since its launch on 15 November 2023. This accomplishment underlines a significant leap towards enhancing travel efficiency and security, highlighting the effective use of advanced biometric technology.
IDEMIA's deployment of a comprehensive border management solution at Abu Dhabi Airport, which includes the world's first multi-biometric entry/exit system, has greatly improved border security. This initiative has also made the passenger experience smoother and more efficient, leading to its expansion to other international airports in the country.

The Single Token Journey (STJ) solution, a key feature of this collaboration, utilises facial recognition technology to simplify the passenger experience. This technology assigns a unique digital identifier to each traveler, reducing the need for multiple documents and enabling a swift journey from curb to gate. Remarkably, this process, including border clearance, can be completed in just 12 minutes.
Elena Sorlini, MD and CEO of Zayed International Airport, expressed pride in the initial rollout of biometrics at the airport. She emphasized the airport's commitment to utilising technology for enhancing airport experiences, aiming for efficiency, convenience, and superior service. Sorlini also highlighted the goal for Abu Dhabi to become the world's first airport to integrate biometrics at every stage of the traveler's journey.
Osama Al Makhamreh, Vice President of Sales for Middle East & Africa at IDEMIA Public Security, shared his enthusiasm for the transformative impact of biometric solutions at the airport's new terminal. Al Makhamreh underscored the significance of processing over one million passengers since November, pointing to the scalability, security, and efficiency of the STJ solution. He also noted the collaboration's role in setting a new global standard for passenger facilitation.
This innovative approach not only boosts security but also significantly enhances the overall passenger experience. The success of the STJ solution at Zayed International Airport represents a pioneering step in transforming air travel in the Middle East and potentially globally. The initiative aligns with Zayed International Airport's commitment to adopting advanced technologies that streamline the travel process, reinforcing the UAE's status as a leading hub for technological advancement and superior passenger facilitation.
