YouTube Terminates VPN-Based Premium Subscriptions
If you've been cleverly using a VPN to snag a cheaper YouTube Premium subscription from another country, your ad-free days might be coming to an end.
YouTube seems to have caught on to this trick and is reportedly cancelling Premium memberships bought using VPNs in foreign countries. Multiple users on Reddit have shared their experiences of receiving cancellation notices citing "inaccurate billing country."
What Can You Do?
So, what's a savvy viewer to do? While some users are brainstorming workarounds, like using payment cards from the spoofed country, these methods are likely to be short-lived. Google, YouTube's parent company, has a vast network of services. Using a VPN to mask your true location could have unintended consequences for other Google accounts.
If you've been enjoying a bargain-basement YouTube Premium subscription, you might be facing the harsh reality of paying full price or, dare we say it, enduring those pesky ads once again.
