WhatsApp Unveils Transcription For Voice Notes, Echoing Google Pixel's Innovation
Meta is testing new artificial intelligence features for WhatsApp. The company is reportedly exploring a voice transcription feature similar to Google Pixel's for voice messages.
According to WABetaInfo, a platform that tracks WhatsApp updates, the instant messaging service has begun testing a feature that provides textual transcriptions of voice notes. This new feature is currently available to a select group of Android users in certain regions.

The report mentioned that users will be able to enable transcriptions for both incoming and outgoing audio notes once the feature is available. This may require additional packages for preferred languages. Currently, the beta version supports English, Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, and Hindi. More languages are expected with the final release.
The feature notifies users when it becomes available with a message stating that it is end-to-end encrypted. It uses on-device processing to generate text transcriptions of audio notes, enhancing privacy.
How does it Compare to Google and Samsung?
Google offers a similar function on its Messages app, but it is limited to select Pixel devices. With WhatsApp testing this feature, it is expected to be more widely available on various Android smartphones. There is no information yet about this feature on the iOS app for WhatsApp.
Recently, Samsung confirmed plans to expand its Galaxy AI-powered "Live Translate" feature to third-party diallers on select Samsung smartphones. This feature offers real-time phone call translations and is expected to be integrated into apps like WhatsApp soon.
The transcription feature will likely roll out initially in regions where supported languages are prevalent, such as India. The final release will probably include more languages and regions.
This development signifies Meta's ongoing efforts to enhance user experience through advanced AI features in its messaging platforms.
