WhatsApp Expands Events Feature To Group Chats With Added Privacy
WhatsApp has expanded its events feature for group chats, following its initial release for Communities last month. GSM Arena confirmed that the feature is now available on the WhatsApp platform for regular group chats. The broader availability of the feature was first spotted in the beta version 2.24.14.9 of WhatsApp for Android. A new "Event" icon can be accessed via the paperclip menu within group chats, enabling users to create and manage events directly in their chat groups. Only the event creator can modify event details, while all group members can view and respond to invitations. Importantly, WhatsApp's end-to-end encryption protects all group events, ensuring user privacy and security.
WhatsApp has also introduced larger group video calls and enhanced business tools in recent updates. The participant limit for group video calls has been increased from eight to 32 users, benefiting both mobile and desktop users. Furthermore, new features powered by Meta AI have been rolled out to improve user experience for individuals and businesses alike.
Expanded AI-powered chat functions are now available in 12 countries after limited testing, allowing users to interact with AI chatbots and create custom AI stickers. Businesses using WhatsApp can also take advantage of Meta Verified, a programme designed to help them demonstrate their legitimacy and build trust with customers. While there is no definitive timeline for the global rollout of the Events feature across all group chats, users can join the beta program for early access to this functionality.
