WhatsApp Beta Rolls Out New Status Update Design For Android Users
WhatsApp is working on a redesign of the status update section in its Android app, aiming to make it simpler for users to preview statuses without losing the ability to view the profile pictures of contacts who posted them. The new design interface for the status update tray has been in development by Meta-owned WhatsApp, but this marks the first time that layout and other design elements have been made available in a beta release. The redesigned interface is currently being rolled out to a limited number of beta testers using the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android, with plans to expand its availability in the coming days.
WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp update tracker, reports that the status preview option appears as a thumbnail on the right side of the screen for users who follow channels. For those who do not follow any channels, there is a vertical list displaying status updates. Within this vertical section, both profile photos and status previews have redesigned thumbnails.
This new feature differs from the previous design, where only the status would be visible and profile photos would disappear. Now, users can easily view contacts and browse updates with thumbnails placed next to profile photos.
In addition to this redesign, WhatsApp has been focusing on enhancing its offerings for users. Recently, they introduced a feature allowing users to set HD quality as their default setting when sending photos and videos through chats. This feature is now available for both iOS and Android users. To enable high-resolution media sharing, users can navigate to WhatsApp's settings on their device, select 'Storage and Data', and choose 'HD quality' as their media upload quality. Furthermore, WhatsApp has also launched a "Calling Update" feature which supports screen sharing with audio, increases participant limits for video calls across devices, and highlights speakers during calls.
