Uganda And UAE To Strengthen Bilateral Ties With Agriculture-Tech Collaboration

In a recent interview in Dubai, Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, the Ugandan Foreign Minister, highlighted the burgeoning relationship between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasizing the mutual benefits that could arise from leveraging Uganda's agricultural base alongside the UAE's technological advancements. This collaboration aims to bolster Uganda's agricultural sector, potentially leading to increased wealth and stability within the nation.

Gen. Abubakhar expressed enthusiasm about the flourishing ties between Uganda and the UAE, attributing this growth to frequent high-level visits and enhanced flight connectivity. Notably, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has visited the UAE more than five times in the past three years. Additionally, there are 27 weekly flights connecting the two countries, underscoring the significance and expansion of their relationship. Abubakhar emphasized the potential for a stronger and more intimate relationship between Uganda and the UAE in addressing these challenges.

Climate Change Cooperation

Another significant area of cooperation is climate change. Gen. Abubakhar praised the UAE for its role in organizing COP28, the UN Climate Conference held in Dubai in December. He highlighted the progress made towards implementing the Paris Agreement on climate change. With Uganda chairing the Group of 77 plus China (G77+China) and the UAE chairing COP28, there is an opportunity for a dynamic partnership in tackling climate-related issues.
