FATF's Endorsement Strengthens UAE's Anti-Money Laundering Efforts

In a recent statement, Ahmed Jasim Al Zaabi, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), highlighted the resolution by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) as a testament to the effectiveness of the United Arab Emirates' Anti-Money Laundering/Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) framework. This announcement by FATF is seen as a recognition of the concerted efforts made by various UAE authorities, spearheaded by the Executive Office of Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorism Financing, to adhere to the Action Plan requirements.

Al Zaabi expressed a strong commitment towards continuing collaboration with partners and stakeholders to advance the UAE's AML/CFT strategy. He emphasized the significance of Abu Dhabi's role as a leading International Financial Centre in cooperating with strategic partners. This cooperation aims to combat financial crimes effectively, contributing to global efforts and paving the way for socio-economic development that is both thriving and sustainable.

The Chairman further elaborated on how Abu Dhabi's conducive environment, coupled with its abundant investment opportunities and robust policies, is drawing Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and significant players across various sectors. These entities are looking to establish and expand their businesses out of Abu Dhabi. Al Zaabi underscored that driven by key national financial and investment policies, Abu Dhabi is focused on ensuring fiscal sustainability and consolidation. The ultimate goal is to achieve sustainable economic development and enhance global competitiveness.

This development underscores the UAE's dedication to upholding international standards in financial security and combating illicit financial activities. It also highlights Abu Dhabi's strategic position in attracting investments that contribute to its long-term economic vision.
