This error disrupted many plans. At Lehigh Valley and Philadelphia international airports, some travellers arrived excited but left disappointed. American Airlines, Delta, United, and Allegiant cancelled over 1,300 flights. Retail stores, banks, call centres, and courts were also affected by the disruption.

Hospitals rely heavily on such software. While many across the country faced issues, Tower Health in Berks County reported no problems. An official from the county mentioned their offices do not use CrowdStrike software and were therefore unaffected.

"This was not a cyber attack; this was a mistake that they made," Robuck explains. "It took computers down from Dubai to Las Vegas to my office all over the world." This mistake had widespread consequences for various sectors.

UPS warned Pennsylvania residents about potential delays in their shipments due to the disruption. The incident underscores the importance of having backup systems in place for critical operations.

"I think the lesson learned is," Robuck says, "you have to have redundancies in every business, in every airport, in any hospital and you have to test those to make sure that they work if something like this happens."

CrowdStrike's role involves installing software on clients' computers to help them during cyber attacks. With numerous clients worldwide relying on their services, even a small error can have significant repercussions.
