Sony Middle East And Africa Launches Advanced Lenses For Superior Images

Sony Middle East and Africa is set to introduce the FE 16mm F1.8 G, a lens that boasts premium G Lens quality, offering a blend of high-resolution ultra-wide angle views and compact design for enhanced portability. The FE 16mm F1.8 G will be available for purchase in selected countries across the Middle East from April 2025.

This lens is designed to complement Sony Alpha™ series cameras perfectly, making it suitable for a variety of photography and videography needs such as landscapes, architecture, and night skies. Its compact size does not compromise its ability to deliver outstanding close-up shots, thanks to its exceptional autofocus capabilities.

The optical construction of the FE 16mm F1.8 G includes innovative elements that ensure superior image quality across the entire aperture range. With two Advanced Aspherical (AA) elements, this lens achieves remarkable resolution.

Additionally, chromatic aberration is significantly reduced by one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element and three ED elements, extending to the edges of the image. The lens also features an optimized coating to reduce flare and ghosting, ensuring clear and vibrant images.

The FE 16mm F1.8 G stands out with its ability to capture stunning bokeh effects, courtesy of its large F1.8 aperture and an 11-blade circular aperture. Its remarkable close-up performance, featuring a minimum focus distance of 0.15 m/0.5 ft for autofocus (AF) and 0.13 m/0.43 ft for manual focus (MF), along with a maximum magnification of 0.25x (AF) and 0.30x (MF), allows photographers and videographers to achieve unique wide-angle shots with beautifully blurred backgrounds.

The FE 16mm F1.8 G distinguishes itself by combining large-aperture, ultra-wide performance with a remarkably compact form factor. Thanks to the use of Sony's advanced aspherical lens elements, including the high-precision AA lens, this full-frame ultra-wide lens measures just 73.8 x 75 mm (3 x 3 inch) and weighs a mere 304 g (10.8 oz). Despite its small size, the lens does not sacrifice image quality, making it ideal for capturing everything from scenic landscapes to architectural marvels and night skies.

For videographers, the FE 16mm F1.8 G offers refined performance, including reduced focus breathing and compatibility with the breathing compensation function of certain Alpha camera bodies. It supports in-body Active Mode image stabilization, facilitating the capture of stable wide-angle videos even when moving. Additionally, its compatibility with standard 67 mm filters and ease of balancing on gimbals enhances its flexibility for video production.

This lens comes equipped with comprehensive controls including a focus ring, focus hold button, focus mode switch, aperture ring, and iris lock switch, with customizable functions for the focus hold button. The aperture ring allows for direct control, complemented by a click ON/OFF switch for added versatility, and a focus mode switch for quick autofocus/manual focus adjustments. Its design is both dust and moisture resistant.
