Sharjah Sets New Standards For Marine Sports Activities With Latest Resolution

The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC), under the leadership of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the SEC, convened for its routine weekly meeting. The session, which also saw the participation of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the SEC, took place at the office of the Ruler of Sharjah. The agenda covered a broad spectrum of topics, including the evaluation of government operations, service development, and oversight of developmental projects across various sectors within the emirate.

In a significant move to regulate marine sports activities within Sharjah, SEC issued Resolution No. 7 of 2024. This resolution outlines a comprehensive framework for the regulation and licensing of marine sports activities in Sharjah, aligning with both federal and local legislation. The resolution mandates the club to execute several key responsibilities to fulfill its objectives effectively.

Sharjah Enhances Marine Sports Regulation

The resolution encompasses several critical areas:

  • Regulation and oversight of all marine and water sports activities in Sharjah.
  • Coordination with the Department of Economic Development for preliminary approval before licensing and renewal of facilities.
  • Supervision over maritime rescue facilities and rescuers, including permit issuance.
  • Issuance of temporary permits for training exercises involving marine sports equipment.
  • Designation and licensing for jet ski usage within facilities.
  • Licensing for hobby diving activities, both with equipment and free diving.
  • Registration plate issuance for bikes and marine boats in collaboration with relevant authorities.
  • Specification of tools for recreational and sports fishing in coordination with pertinent authorities.

The resolution further details regulatory legal provisions concerning licensing requirements, prohibitions, maritime rescue operations, insurance matters, designation of marine areas, conditions for maritime vehicle usage, fee schedules, violations, administrative penalties, among other aspects.

Beyond regulatory measures, the council also deliberated on Sharjah's strategy for organizing significant events and occasions. These discussions focused on enhancing Sharjah's reputation as a premier destination for hosting quality events. The aim is to leverage these events not only for tourism promotion but also to reinforce national values and uphold the country's foundational principles.

This initiative by the SEC underscores Sharjah's commitment to ensuring the safe and regulated conduct of marine sports activities. It reflects a broader strategy to promote tourism while preserving national heritage and values. As Sharjah continues to develop its services and infrastructure across various sectors, such resolutions play a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and vibrant future for the emirate.
