Samsung Galaxy S25 Series Promises Revolutionary Software Update Technology
Samsung is on the brink of revolutionizing the software update experience for its flagship smartphone lineup, with the Galaxy S25 series rumored to include seamless update technology. This advancement means that the new Galaxy S-series phones will employ A/B updates, which significantly streamline the process receiving Android version upgrades minor software enhancements, and security patches.
This technology, known as A/B updates, involves downloading and installing a new software version, termed "B", onto a separate storage partition while the device continues to operate on the current version, "A". This method allows users to use their phones without interruption as the update occurs in the background. Following the update, a simple device reboot is required to switch to the updated software. This process is more efficient than traditional update methods, reducing the time needed to restart the device since part of the installation is already complete.
Google first introduced the concept of A/B updates back in 2016, marking a significant shift towards improving the user experience during software updates. Samsung has only recently embraced this technology, beginning with the Galaxy A55 model released earlier this year. It's important to highlight that A/B updates necessitate hardware-level support, meaning older devices cannot be updated to include this feature. Given the integration of seamless updates in the Galaxy A55, it's expected that Samsung will extend this innovative feature to its upcoming flagship models, including the Galaxy S25 series.
Looking ahead, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is poised to be a standout device within the series. Speculation suggests it will boast a new, rounded frame design, moving away from the sharp edges characteristic of its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The device is expected to feature a more slender build and a larger display, thanks to a taller body and slimmer bezels. While the Ultra version is anticipated to retain the impressive 200MP primary and telephoto cameras of its predecessor, it might also include a significant enhancement with a 50MP ultra-wide angle camera, a substantial upgrade from the current 12MP sensor.
In what marks a departure from Samsung's typical strategy, the entire Galaxy S25 range, including the Ultra model, is rumored to be powered by the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. This shift is attributed to the reportedly low production yields of the next-gen Exynos 2500 chip, which has traditionally been used in the standard and Plus variants of Samsung's Galaxy S series. Moreover, Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S25 lineup will be equipped with the Android 15-based One UI 7 user interface, ensuring users will have access to the latest software innovations right out of the box.
