Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Set To Transform The Olympic Viewing Experience At Paris 2024

Samsung Electronics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) have announced plans to revolutionize the Paris 2024 broadcast experience for viewers and fans. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will capture and share first-of-its-kind footage, playing a crucial role in showcasing the historic Opening Ceremony on the Seine River and the Olympic Games' sailing competitions.

Advanced Mobile Technology and 5G Connectivity

As the Official Smartphone and Computing Equipment partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Samsung will utilize its advanced mobile technology and 5G connectivity to provide a closer perspective of these iconic celebratory and competition moments. This new view, powered by Samsung Galaxy innovation, will not only help Paris 2024 deliver on its promise to be the most open Games ever but also further Samsung's legacy of innovation in support of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Galaxy S24 Ultra to Enhance Paris 2024

Stephanie Choi, EVP & Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, said, "We're honored to be working closely with the IOC and OBS to provide high-quality footage that will be part of a series of firsts at Paris 2024 and bring fans at home and onsite even closer to the excitement."

Opening Ceremony on the Seine River

In about a month, for the first time ever, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place outside of a stadium. Paris 2024 will see 10,500 athletes float down the Seine River in designated boats for each national delegation. The iconic parade will follow a six-kilometer route through central Paris before concluding at Trocadéro.

Galaxy S24 Ultra Provides Front Row Seat

To bring fans closer to the action, Samsung will install over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones on each of the 85 athlete vessels during the opening ceremony. The high-quality HDR footage taken with these devices will be shared via a private 5G network powered by Orange, France's official mobile network provider for Paris 2024. Orange will install more than a dozen 5G antennas along the Seine to create France's first-ever standalone 5G network.

Samsung will also deploy this technology for sailing competitions in Marseille by installing Galaxy S24 Ultra devices on each competition boat. This allows fans to experience races alongside their favorite Olympians.

Challenges and Solutions

Months of research, development, and testing were required to ensure video quality and connectivity performance across various bodies of water and weather conditions. Samsung addressed these challenges by leveraging Optical image stabilization (OIS) features, increasing transmission power, and installing relay towers on chase boats.

Yiannis Exarchos, Chief Executive Officer of OBS, said that Samsung's latest mobile innovation would allow millions of fans worldwide "to live and breathe the spirit, action, and emotion" of Paris 2024 events in real-time.

Samsung's History with Olympic Games

This announcement marks another step in Samsung's long-standing commitment to driving digital transformation at Olympic Games. Since Nagano 1998, Samsung has provided athletes and staff with over 120,000 mobile products. Further details on how Samsung will leverage its technological capabilities during Paris 2024 will be revealed in upcoming weeks.
