If You Are A Samsung Galaxy Phone User, You Probably Won't Need Shazam Anymore!
Samsung has introduced a new feature to its Circle to Search on mid-range A series devices. This update includes music recognition, similar to Shazam, but integrated within Circle to Search.
Forget about using separate apps like Shazam or Soundhound. Now, you can identify songs directly from your Samsung Galaxy phone. With the latest update, simply long-press your navigation bar or home button to activate Circle to Search. A new music icon will appear; tap it, and the feature will identify songs playing around you or on your device.
This functionality is available on Samsung devices with Circle to Search and version 15.32.37.28 of the Google app. However, since this is a Google-led rollout, not all Samsung devices with the specified Google app version may receive the new feature immediately.
How It Works
When you activate Circle to Search after receiving the update, you'll notice a new button featuring a music note. Tapping this button allows the feature to identify any song playing nearby or on your device. You can even hum or sing a tune if you can't recall the lyrics.
In 2020, Google launched a similar feature allowing users to search for music by humming. This feature helps solve the common problem of having a tune stuck in your head without knowing its name or lyrics.
Using Hum-to-Search
To use this feature, open the latest version of the Google app or find your Google Search widget on your mobile device. Tap the mic icon and say "what's this song?" or click the "Search a song" button and start humming for 10-15 seconds. On Google Assistant, just say "Hey Google, what's this song?" and hum the tune.
After humming, Google's machine learning algorithm identifies potential matches based on your melody. You don't need perfect pitch for this feature to work effectively. The most likely options will be displayed for you to choose from, allowing you to explore information about the song and artist.
Once identified, you can view accompanying music videos, listen to the song on your preferred music app, find lyrics, read analysis, and check out other recordings if available.
This server-side switch by Google may take some time before it's activated for every Samsung device with Circle to Search. However, once enabled, it offers an integrated solution that many users already utilise.
The addition of music recognition in Circle to Search enhances user convenience by eliminating the need for third-party apps like Shazam. This built-in feature simplifies identifying songs directly from Samsung Galaxy phones.
Samsung's integration of this functionality reflects ongoing efforts to improve user experience by incorporating useful tools within existing features. As more devices receive this update, users can expect seamless access to music identification capabilities directly from their smartphones.
If the feature isn’t visible on your Samsung Galaxy smartphone, even with the latest Google app version, don't worry. Google and Android often roll out new features in phases, so it’s likely that Circle to Search will gradually become available to all users over time.
