Pearson Announces Global Rollout Of AI Study Tools For Higher Education
In a significant move set to reshape the landscape of higher education, Pearson has announced plans to broaden the reach of its generative AI beta study tools to a global audience. This expansion will see the innovative study aids integrated into a wide array of higher education titles, making them accessible to students across the Middle East, Australia, Asia-Pacific, Canada, and Europe by August 2024. The decision follows the successful incorporation of these tools in the United States since last August, marking a new chapter in Pearson's commitment to enhancing educational experiences through technology.
The initiative will extend to dozens of English-language Pearson eTextbook global editions, including Canadian adaptations of content originally developed in the United States. These will span crucial academic disciplines such as science, engineering, mathematics, and business. Furthermore, the AI study tools will be made available in an array of science titles within Pearson's Mastering study platform. Feedback from a survey involving US students, who engaged with the beta version of the AI study tools during the August – December 2023 semester, was overwhelmingly positive. An impressive 75% of participants found the tools to be beneficial to their academic endeavors.

Ebrahim Matthews, SVP International Higher Education at Pearson, commented on the international rollout, "We know that students want to make their studying more efficient and are seeking ways to use trustworthy AI technology to get unstuck when they're struggling in their coursework. We've built our AI study tools to meet this need, drawing from Pearson's content to provide personalized support when students need it. With the expansion of AI study tools internationally, we can help more students succeed in university and beyond."
Among the titles to benefit from this technological enhancement is 'Campbell Biology', a leading resource for students globally. Lisa Urry, co-author of the textbook, expressed enthusiasm about the wider availability of Pearson's AI study tools, highlighting the eagerness of students and faculty to incorporate this evolving technology into their academic work for improved learning outcomes.
This expansion is part of Pearson's broader strategy to embed generative AI into over 40 Pearson+ eTextbooks and various MyLab and Mastering titles in the US by August 2024. Currently, more than 30 Pearson Mastering titles in the US already feature the AI study tools this semester. Pearson's investment in the responsible application of AI underscores its dedication to product innovation and the enhancement of learning experiences, aiming to educate, certify, and credential students and the workforce effectively.
