Parkopedia Teams With Regeny To Enhance EV Charge Point Access In The Middle East

Drivers in the Middle East are set to experience a major improvement in locating electric vehicle (EV) charge points thanks to a new partnership between Parkopedia and Regeny. This collaboration aims to integrate charge point data directly into vehicle head units, addressing the widespread anxiety related to finding public charging stations. With 91% of EV drivers highlighting the stress involved in this task, as noted in the latest Parkopedia Global Driver Survey, this initiative marks a significant step towards simplifying the EV driving experience.

The initial phase of this partnership will benefit UAE drivers, offering access to data from half of the EV chargers across the country. This coverage is made possible through one of the world’s leading premium automakers, enhancing the charging infrastructure visibility for a rapidly expanding EV market. The initiative not only aims to alleviate the current stress associated with locating charging points but also to foster greater EV adoption across the region.

Expanding EV Charge Coverage in Middle East

As the year progresses, this service will extend to other Middle Eastern markets, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, and Jordan, impacting over 200 million residents. This broader coverage underscores the commitment to improving EV infrastructure and support across the region, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future in mobility.

Expanding Charging Networks and Technology Readiness

Regeny stands at the forefront of this transformation, managing over 50 charging sites and nearly 2,000 charging ports across the UAE. Notably, more than 500 of these ports were installed in the last year alone, demonstrating rapid growth in the infrastructure. The company’s OCPI roaming platform is integral to this expansion, enabling smart mobility and fleet owners to access a comprehensive charging network. Plans are already in place to extend this network to Saudi Arabia by the end of 2024.

The UAE's commitment to leading in technology infrastructure and readiness for autonomous driving has been internationally recognized, ranking it eighth globally. This accolade, surpassing the UK, Japan, and Germany, highlights the UAE's openness to new technologies and the strong market demand for connected car services. Such a backdrop is conducive to the swift adoption of advanced features, including seamless EV charging solutions.

A Global Vision for Connected Car Services

Parkopedia’s ambitions extend beyond the Middle East, with efforts to increase charging point of interest (POI) data coverage in key markets such as India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Chile. These global partnerships are crucial for Parkopedia’s mission to provide stress-free parking and charging solutions to international OEMs, enhancing the overall driving experience for EV owners worldwide.

Jaap van den Hoek, Global Head of Partnerships at Parkopedia, emphasized the global significance of easing the search for public chargers. "We recognise the importance of taking the stress out of locating public chargers for EV drivers across the world. This is equally as important in emerging EV markets as it is in established ones," he stated, highlighting the universal challenge faced by EV drivers and the global scope of Parkopedia’s solution.

This partnership between Parkopedia and Regeny is more than just a technical collaboration; it represents a significant leap forward in making EV driving a more attractive and practical option for drivers in the Middle East and beyond. As these efforts continue to unfold, the future of EV driving looks increasingly convenient, marking a pivotal moment in the journey towards sustainable mobility.
