OPPO To Extend AI Phone Technology To 50 Million Users By 2024

OPPO, a leading smartphone manufacturer, has announced its commitment to making AI phones accessible to a wider audience. The company aims to bring generative AI to all of its product lines, ensuring that AI technology is not limited to flagship phones and selected users.

Billy Zhang, President of Overseas MKT, Sales and Service at OPPO, stated, "With our relentless efforts and commitment, OPPO aims to make AI phones accessible to everyone. By the end of this year, we expect to bring generative AI features to about 50 million users." This move is in line with OPPO's belief that smartphones are the most important personal AI device, with their global reach, advanced connectivity, and multimodal capabilities.

According to IDC's latest research report, the market for AI phones in the sub-US$1000 segment is expected to grow by 250% in 2024, reaching 35 million units. This reinforces the significant potential of AI technology in smartphones. Generative AI is already enhancing everyday experiences in entertainment, mobile officing, and more.

OPPO has been driving the accessibility of AI phones through innovation and collaboration. The company has filed over 5,000 patents related to AI inventions, with a focus on AI imaging. In 2020, OPPO developed its own Large Language Models (LLMs) and deployed an LLM with 7 billion parameters directly on the device, a first in the industry. This year, OPPO has introduced over 100 generative AI capabilities to its phones.

In addition to its own innovation, OPPO is partnering with industry leaders to enhance AI phone experiences. Collaboration with Google will bring innovative features such as AI Toolbox, including AI Writer and AI Recording Summary, to OPPO's Reno12 series and the next-generation Find X Flagship. MediaTek is working with OPPO to enhance chip storage and computational efficiency on future flagship models. And through its partnership with Microsoft, OPPO phones will benefit from improved voice and text conversion experiences and enhanced connectivity between desktop AI and phones.

OPPO has also integrated various innovative features into its AI phones to boost productivity and creativity. Fast transcription and real-time translation capabilities, powered by LLMs, help users process information more efficiently. Cross-device collaboration between desktop AI and phones further improves productivity. On the creative side, OPPO's AI Eraser feature allows users to remove unwanted objects and generate missing content seamlessly. Multimodal technology enables users to create visually and textually engaging content for social media.

Nicole Zhang, General Manager of AI Product at OPPO, believes that the transition from smartphones to AI phones will be a long-term evolution that continuously transforms the mobile experience.
