OnePlus To Roll Out New Charging Limit Feature For Battery Health
OnePlus, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, is reportedly working on a new battery health feature. This feature will automatically limit battery charging when the device stays plugged in for extended periods. According to Android Authority, OnePlus hinted at this feature in its second Android 15 beta update.
Currently, on OxygenOS 14, OnePlus users can manually set an 80 per cent charging limit to preserve battery health. The upcoming update will introduce a system that restricts charging beyond 80 per cent if the device has been plugged in for too long.
New Charging Limit Feature
The new "Charging Limit" feature will be different from the existing "Optimised Charging" feature on OnePlus devices. Optimised Charging limits the battery level to 80 per cent and starts recharging the remaining battery 100 minutes before the user is expected to unplug. In contrast, the new feature will keep the battery level at 80 per cent while charging.
OnePlus is allowing select users with Android 15 beta 2 to test this new feature, which currently includes a toggle for enabling it. It is likely that OnePlus will make this a default setting if the phone remains plugged in for too long.
Battery Technology Advancements
In another development, OnePlus recently introduced a new battery technology called "Glacier Battery" in collaboration with Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL), a Chinese battery manufacturer. This technology enables OnePlus to increase battery capacity while reducing its size.
Using this advanced technology, OnePlus has incorporated a 6,100 mAh battery into its OnePlus Ace 3 Pro smartphone. This innovation allows for larger batteries without increasing the physical size of the device.
The introduction of these features and technologies highlights OnePlus's commitment to improving user experience and device longevity. By focusing on battery health and capacity, OnePlus aims to provide more reliable and efficient smartphones for its users.
