e& UAE Launches Experimental Network Slicing To Revolutionise User Experience In Gaming
In a groundbreaking development, e& UAE has become the world's first to deploy Nokia's network slicing technology to create a bespoke end-to-end network slice designed to cater to the demanding speed and latency needs of contemporary gaming applications.
This initiative was part of an experimental phase conducted within e& UAE's Abu Dhabi facilities, showcasing the potential of network slicing to significantly improve user experiences. The experiment involved establishing network slices through both the in-home Wi-Fi and the fiber access network, ensuring a seamless quality of experience throughout.

The efficacy of Nokia's slicing solution was demonstrated when e& UAE managed to automatically identify the connection of a new gaming console to the network. This triggered the on-demand creation of a specialized network slice that boasted low latency and high speed, essential for optimal gaming performance.
This trial underscores the capability of Nokia's technology in enabling service providers to enhance their network monetization strategies. By offering custom-tailored slices for different services or applications, operators can meet the unique needs of each customer, thereby improving service quality and fostering customer loyalty.
Nokia's advanced slicing solution comprises Altiplano, Corteca, and NSP domain controllers, designed to facilitate the creation of cross-domain network slices. These slices can be set up either on-demand or autonomously, based on standard specifications, to provide premium services to users. Depending on the service—be it TV streaming, cloud gaming, home working, or enterprise applications—each slice can be customized with specific network attributes such as routing, bit rate, QoS, latency, and security. This flexibility enables operators to optimize network performance for a variety of user experiences.
Abdul Rahman Al Humaidan, Vice President of Fixed Access Network at e& UAE, shared his insights on the adoption of this pioneering technology. "We aim to incorporate cutting-edge technological advancements into our network. Utilizing Nokia's slicing solution enables us to effortlessly manage our customers' experience by designing tailored network slices for specific services and application requirements. This approach ensures the delivery of an exceptional digital experience while addressing diverse service needs effectively and enhancing return on investment."
Echoing the significance of this trial, Mohamed Salama, Head of Fixed Networks, Middle East & Africa at Nokia, remarked, "This trial sets a new benchmark in the industry and lays the foundation for future autonomous networks that can deliver premium services to customers in a whole new way. Our slicing solution is uniquely positioned to help operators like e& UAE maximize network investments, optimize resources and create new services for applications like gaming that have the power to enhance customer experiences and increase customer retention."
The successful trial of Nokia's network slicing solution by e& UAE not only marks a significant advancement in network technology but also illustrates the dynamic capabilities of modern telecommunications. By enabling the provision of customized network slices for specific applications, this innovation paves the way for operators to deliver unparalleled digital experiences.
