Sheikh Mohammed Honours Global Innovators at the 6th Edge of Government Award

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, recently recognized the exceptional contributions of two innovative projects at the 6th Edge of Government Award. The ceremony, a highlight of the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2024, showcased 13 global innovations through the Edge of Government platform managed by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Centre for Government Innovation. The projects from Türkiye and Spain emerged victorious among 11 other contenders, demonstrating groundbreaking approaches in their respective fields.

The RoboRoyale project from Türkiye introduces an advanced AI-based multi-robot system designed to mimic and support the natural behaviors of honeybees, particularly those surrounding the queen bee. This innovative use of micro-robotics and artificial intelligence aims to observe and replicate the crucial interactions within the hive. By assisting in tasks such as feeding, grooming, and cleaning of the queen bee with robotic surrogates, RoboRoyale not only supports bee populations but also enhances pollination and ecosystem health.

Global Innovators Honoured by Sheikh Mohammed

Spain's Life Work Balance project, initiated by Barcelona, represents a pioneering effort in developing time use and tracking policies. Recognizing time as both a valuable commodity and a human right, Barcelona became one of the first European cities to legislate national time use laws. This initiative has inspired over 75 cities worldwide to join the World Regional and Local Governments Time Network, promoting a balanced approach to work and life across the globe.

Innovative Solutions on a Global Stage

The 6th Edge of Government Award served as a platform for introducing attendees of the World Governments Summit 2024 to innovative solutions developed by governments from 13 countries. These projects, spanning themes such as Alternative Intelligence, River Time, and the Bureau of Standards, were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges. The criteria for assessment included novelty, replicability, and impact, ensuring that only the most transformative projects were recognized.

The Edge of Government Award underscores the importance of innovation in addressing global challenges. By highlighting projects like RoboRoyale and Life Work Balance, the award encourages knowledge sharing and offers insights into future-ready tools that can benefit societies worldwide. The recognition of these projects not only celebrates their achievements but also sets a benchmark for governmental innovation on an international scale.
