With the Qatar datacentre region's expansion, Microsoft aims to offer both public and private sector entities in Qatar enhanced access to the latest AI tools, thereby enabling them to harness these innovations effectively. This move aligns with the country's Digital Agenda 2030, which seeks to position Qatar as a leader in smart technology and AI innovation.

Sami Al Shammari, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT, emphasized the expansion as a reflection of the Ministry's commitment to empowering local organisations to lead in the new AI era. Meanwhile, Lana Khalaf, General Manager at Microsoft Qatar, highlighted how the datacentre region's growth supports the deployment of AI and cloud applications, facilitating AI-driven innovation, industry transformation, and sustainable economic development.

At the Heart of Innovation

Since its launch in 2022, the datacentre has become central to Microsoft's mission of assisting Qatar's public and private sectors in leveraging AI for industry innovation and business acceleration. This initiative addresses critical needs such as data residency, latency reduction, and enhanced security, privacy, and compliance.

Various organisations in Qatar are already utilizing these advanced technologies to develop and implement their AI solutions, thereby enhancing productivity and customer and employee experiences. Notable examples include the Qatar e-Government Portal - Hukoomi, employing Azure OpenAI Service for advanced AI models, and Qatar Foundation's bilingual chatbot, BOTaina, developed using Microsoft Azure AI Cognitive Services.

Invest Qatar's development of Ai.SHA, an AI-powered chatbot, further exemplifies the innovative use of Azure OpenAI Service to create unique investor experiences both locally and internationally.

The 'Lead the Era of AI’ event also saw the presentation of the 'AI Innovation Awards’, honouring organisations that have excelled in using AI to drive digital transformation and create positive societal impacts. Among the awardees were Qatar Airways, Power International Holding (PIH), and entities involved in real-time crowd and transportation management, showcasing the breadth of AI's application in various sectors.

Microsoft's datacentre region in Qatar is part of the company's global network, which spans over 60 regions in 140 countries, providing businesses access to a growing suite of cloud and AI services. This network is instrumental in empowering organisations worldwide to innovate and shape the future with cutting-edge technology solutions.
