The Mohammed Bin Rashid Innovation Fund (MBRIF), under the auspices of the UAE Ministry of Finance, has entered into a strategic partnership with AzurX, a prominent private space and satellite services and investment firm in the Middle East. This collaboration is set to boost innovation within the space and strategic technologies sector, providing substantial support to startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) aiming for acceleration and growth.
Through this partnership, MBRIF aims to attract global space startups to the UAE’s burgeoning innovation ecosystem, offering them a platform for rapid growth by integrating them with the UAE’s ambitious space programs and resources. This move is expected to solidify MBRIF’s standing as a leader in space innovation both regionally and globally, in alignment with the UAE National Innovation Strategy.

Fatima Yousif Alnaqbi, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services Sector and Chief Innovation Officer at the UAE Ministry of Finance, emphasized the importance of partnerships in nurturing the innovation ecosystem. The collaboration with AzurX is viewed as a strategic effort to amplify the impact and scope of innovative projects within the space sector, aiming to foster a dynamic ecosystem that propels the growth of startups and advances the industry.

Accelerating Space Innovation
MBRIF and AzurX are gearing up to welcome startups worldwide to join a tailored 6-month accelerator program in the UAE. This program is designed to nurture promising innovators across seven sectors identified in the National Innovation Strategy, with space innovation being a key focus. It offers customized solutions, expert mentorship, and essential resources to startups at different stages of development, including help in securing funding and connecting with stakeholders in the UAE.
A success story highlighted is Farmin, an Emirati-based remote-sensing platform that uses satellite imagery processed through Artificial Intelligence (AI). With MBRIF’s support, Farmin has established partnerships with key entities like the MBRSC, Abu Dhabi Maritime Academy (ADMA), and Abu Dhabi Ports, securing over Dh1.1 million in funding for various projects.
The MBRIF Innovation Accelerator Program, initiated in 2018, focuses on fostering innovation across multiple sectors including health, clean energy, technology, and space. The seventh cohort of the program drew over 230 applicants from 41 countries, underscoring its global reach and the diversity of its participants. The program offers startups access to world-class business resources, mentorship, and support to accelerate growth, enhance capabilities, and achieve scalability.
