LG Electronics Spearheads ‘Optimism Your Feed’ On Social Media

In a bold move to infuse social media landscapes with positivity, LG Electronics has unveiled its latest global initiative, 'Optimism your feed.' This campaign is a strategic effort to enrich users' social media experiences by encouraging interaction with uplifting and positive content. Spearheaded by Kim Hyo-eun, vice president and head of LG's Brand Management Division, the campaign underscores LG's commitment to fostering a hopeful outlook towards the future, especially in an era dominated by artificial intelligence.

We aim to create positive changes in people's lives by being intentional with our positive activities both online and in the real world," Kim Hyo-eun stated, reinforcing LG's dedication to enhancing customer experiences through a human-centric approach.

LG Aims to Positively Transform Social Media

A newly commissioned global survey by LG has shed light on the dual nature of social media as a source of both anxiety and entertainment. The findings reveal that almost half of the respondents encounter an equal or greater amount of negative over positive content on their feeds, with a significant portion attributing an increase in anxiety and unhappiness to the negative content encountered. This has led to the creation of the 'Optimism your feed' playlist, designed to algorithmically promote more optimistic content to users' feeds.

Collaborating with globally recognized influencers and social media experts, the campaign aims to leverage the power of recommendation algorithms to create a more positive online environment. Influencers like Tina Choi, Victoria Browne, and Josh Harmon, along with Professor Casey Fiesler, an expert in technology ethics and online communities, have contributed to the campaign's and strategy.

Professor Fiesler commented on the crucial role of digital literacy in navigating social media spaces, highlighting the ability of users to influence algorithmic outcomes by engaging with positive content. Echoing this sentiment, Victoria Browne emphasized the impact of social media algorithms on mental health and advocated for the 'Optimism your feed' initiative as a means to foster a supportive online community.

The 'Optimism your feed' playlist, featuring over 20 short-form videos ranging from motivational to feel-good content, is available on LG's global TikTok and YouTube channels. The campaign is set to expand its reach through collaborations with influencers across various platforms, aiming to inspire users to cultivate a more optimistic and balanced digital experience.
