IROS 2024 Showcases Abu Dhabi's Leadership In Global Research And Innovation In Robotics
The International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2024) is set to take place in Abu Dhabi from 14th to 18th October. Organised by Khalifa University, this event highlights the university's global influence and Abu Dhabi’s role as a research and innovation hub. Professor Ebrahim Al Hajri, President of Khalifa University, emphasised its importance in showcasing advanced research facilities and innovative projects.
Professor Al Hajri noted that IROS 2024 will attract over 10,000 participants. The conference will feature lectures, technical sessions, workshops, and competitions under the theme 'Robotics for Sustainable Development'. This gathering aims to foster international collaboration and highlight the university's commitment to excellence in research and education.

This year's conference marks the 36th edition of IROS, making it the largest so far. It has received over 4,000 research papers from 60 countries. China leads with 1,029 submissions, followed by the United States with 777 papers. Germany submitted 302 papers, while Japan contributed 253. The UK and South Korea each submitted 173 papers.
Khalifa University has achieved significant milestones in research with over 300 patents and more than 8,000 published scientific articles. The university ranks among the top globally for publishing in leading scientific journals. It averages 18.8 citations per publication, demonstrating its impact on the academic community worldwide.
The conference provides a platform for knowledge exchange and exploring new research trends in robotics and intelligent systems. It offers opportunities for building partnerships that can enhance future developments in these fields. Professor Al Hajri highlighted that this event attracts some of the brightest minds globally, furthering international collaboration.
The UAE leads Arab nations with 68 research papers submitted to IROS 2024. This reflects the country's growing influence in robotics research within the region.
