Humane Urges Halt On Charging Case Use Amid Battery Fire Concerns

Humane, a startup that recently launched its Ai Pin, is navigating through a challenging period following a customer complaint regarding a charging issue. The company has issued a cautionary email to its customers, advising them to stop using its egg-shaped charging case. This step was taken as a preventive measure after an investigation revealed the batteries supplied could potentially be a fire hazard.

The investigation was initiated after a customer reported a problem with the charging case. Humane's probe into the matter found that the batteries from a specific supplier did not meet the company's stringent quality criteria. "Our investigation determined that the battery supplier was no longer meeting our quality standards and that there is a potential that certain battery cells supplied by this vendor may pose a fire safety risk," Humane stated. Consequently, the decision was made to discontinue the relationship with the battery vendor while the search for a new supplier is underway.

Despite the issue being isolated to a single complaint, the company is considering offering two free months of its $24 subscription service as consolation to affected customers. The Charge Case, implicated in the ongoing battery issue, is the only product currently identified as a risk. Other Humane products, such as the Battery Boost and Charging Pad, have not been affected.
