Gemini AI Enhances Google Messages With Improved Functionality

Google has started integrating Gemini AI into its Messages app, aiming to improve functionality and user interaction within chats. This follows the recent introduction of Gemini AI on other platforms such as Gmail. The integration is designed to streamline the user experience by providing easy access to artificial intelligence capabilities without leaving the Messages app.

A new floating action button has been added above the "Start chat" button in the lower-right corner of the interface, allowing users to access the AI service effortlessly. Although not yet widely available, Google confirms that Gemini AI works similarly to its standalone version on Android devices. This enables users to ask questions, obtain information, or issue commands while continuing their conversations within Messages.

Privacy Considerations and Customisation Options

Gemini AI respects user privacy by not scanning private conversations. However, interactions with the AI chatbot are not end-to-end encrypted, so users should be cautious when sharing sensitive information. Google offers options for users to manage their chat history with Gemini, allowing storage customisation from default settings of 18 months up to 36 months or as low as 3 months. In terms of privacy concerns, Gemini AI does not track user location beyond general details derived from IP addresses or home addresses.

As the update rolls out further, users can expect enhanced capabilities and more streamlined interactions within the Messages app.
