Google Enhances Gmail And Workspace Apps With Gemini AI Integration
Google has begun implementing Gemini AI in the side panels of Workspace applications, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, as announced at the I/O developers conference in May. The US-based tech giant has also introduced the Gemini AI side panel to Gmail for web users. By using Gemini in the side panel, individuals can summarise, analyse, and generate content based on insights from emails and documents without switching apps or tabs. Furthermore, the side panel will employ Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro model, which features a larger context window and enhanced reasoning capabilities.
Gemini AI Availability and Rollout
The update will be accessible to Google Workspace customers with Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education Premium add-ons, or a Google One AI Premium subscription. The new features are being rolled out progressively and will be available to all customers by July 8.
What are the New Features in Google Workspace Apps?
In Docs, the Gemini side panel will aid users in writing and refining their content while also helping them summarise information and create files. In Slides, the side panel will enable users to generate new slides, custom images, summarise presentations, and more.
With the Gemini-powered side panel in Sheets, users can track and organise data by creating tables and generating formulas for specific tasks. In Drive, the side panel allows users to summarise multiple documents simultaneously from their Google Drive without having to click on each individual item.
Gemini Side Panel in Gmail for Web
By utilising Gemini on Gmail's side panel, users can ask the AI assistant to summarise email threads, suggest responses, draft emails or even pose questions to find specific information from emails within their inbox or Google Drive files.
