Google App Enhances Search With New 'Share' Button Feature

The Google app for Android devices is introducing a convenient update that allows users to quickly share links directly from search results. This enhancement eliminates the need for users to open the link before sharing, streamlining the process significantly.

Artem Russakovskii, the founder of Android Police, first identified this new feature on X (formerly known as Twitter). The newly added 'Share' button is located above the 'About this result' section, accessible by tapping the three-dot button next to each result. This update is poised to make sharing information from Google searches faster and more efficient than before.

Upon clicking the 'Share' button, the Android system share sheet pops up, providing options to copy the link, share it directly with contacts, or send it to another app. This is a departure from the previous approach, which required users to open the link and wait for the page to load before they could share the URL. Notably, the Google app differs from web browsers, which allow users to long-press on a link to copy its URL directly.

However, this share functionality may not be available for all search results. Specifically, links that redirect to apps on the Google Play Store do not offer a 'Share' option. Desktop users have a slightly different experience; right-clicking on a link enables them to copy and share it easily. Similar to the mobile experience, clicking the three-dot button on desktop provides additional information about the website, along with options to share the link, save it, or give Google feedback about the search result.

In addition to this sharing feature, the Google app on Android was upgraded last year with several other notable features. These include Notes, which allows users to leave and view notes on search results, and the introduction of Search with Generative AI (SGE) functionality. SGE enables the delivery of AI-generated summaries of search results, further enhancing the user experience by providing concise and relevant information.

This series of updates to the Google app underscores the tech giant's commitment to improving user experience and efficiency in accessing and sharing information. By simplifying the sharing process and integrating advanced AI functionalities, Google continues to adapt its services to meet the evolving needs of its users.
