AI Weather Revolution: G42 And NVIDIA Boost Resilience With Hyper-Local Forecasts
G42, in collaboration with NVIDIA, has unveiled an advanced weather forecasting system that marks a significant leap forward in the realm of hyper-local weather predictions. This innovative system stems from their prior partnership, which saw the creation of the Earth-2 Climate Tech Lab in Abu Dhabi.
It features a generative downscaling model that not only accelerates and reduces the cost of simulations but also enhances the prediction of extreme weather events through a deep understanding of the local physics.

This new system provides highly detailed 200-meter resolution forecasts, primarily for Abu Dhabi and other metropolitan areas. Such precision in micro-weather simulations and forecasting is unprecedented, offering a new standard for weather prediction tailored to specific urban settings.
Furthermore, this development enables more precise anticipation of extreme weather effects, allowing for timely alerts and efficient response strategies benefitting governments, industries, and communities alike.
The system's ability to conduct detailed fog simulations across the UAE demonstrates its sophisticated visualization capabilities and the integration of accurate, high-resolution data. This advancement is particularly beneficial for sectors such as Transportation, Logistics, Public Safety, and Insurance, improving both productivity and safety.
According to Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director General of the National Center of Meteorology UAE, "AI-powered weather forecasting has the potential to revolutionise high-quality, high-resolution weather and disaster management solutions, particularly in this accelerating phase of climate change. By enhancing prediction accuracy and enabling hyper-local, real-time forecasts, this technology empowers better decision-making and strengthens resilience against climate challenges."
Andrew Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of Inception, highlighted the transformative potential of AI in weather forecasting, stating, "For AI to be truly transformative, it should be an accessible tool for governments and industries worldwide. Through our collaboration with NVIDIA, we are bringing cutting-edge forecasting capabilities within reach of those who need them most."
Dion Harris, Senior Director of HPC and AI Factory Solutions at NVIDIA, emphasised the growing importance of hyper-local weather forecasting in a changing climate. "Weather forecasting has always required significant computational power, but AI is redefining what's possible," Harris said, underlining the role of AI in producing more precise, detailed, and adaptive weather predictions.
This breakthrough not only sets a new benchmark in weather prediction accuracy but also opens doors to broader applications, including aviation, urban mobility, and energy grid optimization. By providing hyper-local insights, this technology can significantly reduce flight delays, enhance road safety, optimize renewable energy distribution, and support climate-adaptive urban development.
G42's initiative aligns with a global trend towards leveraging AI-driven solutions to tackle climate challenges. As the frequency and severity of extreme weather events increase, AI-powered forecasting will become instrumental in protecting populations, infrastructure, and economies.
Looking ahead, G42 aims to expand this technology beyond the UAE to climate-vulnerable regions in the Global South, such as Africa, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, where precise forecasting is vital for disaster preparedness and infrastructure resilience.
