Emirates Invests US$48 Million In Advanced Pilot And Crew Training Systems Ahead Of A350 Fleet Arrival
Emirates is gearing up for the arrival of its Airbus A350s by investing approximately US$48 million in state-of-the-art training equipment and systems. This investment includes three full flight simulators, a fixed base training device, a cabin emergency evacuation trainer, and a door trainer. These tools are designed to enhance both pilot and cabin crew training, reflecting the airline's dedication to achieving high standards.
The Pilot Support System (PSS) is an industry-first innovation developed by Emirates. It enhances the training experience by allowing trainees to perform an interactive flight deck setup during the briefing phase. This setup includes building a flight plan in an immersive environment, which can be recalled when trainees enter the simulator. The PSS also features a debrief mode that lets instructors review recorded sessions to assess crew performance.

Emirates' first A350 full flight simulator has received a level D qualification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), marking the highest standard for such simulators. This qualification was achieved without any findings, underscoring the advanced technology's role in boosting training efficiency and pilot confidence. The second A350 simulator is currently undergoing onsite acceptance and is expected to receive EASA approval in November.
The fixed base training device for the A350 mimics the flight deck using visual and audio systems to create realistic training scenarios. Capt Bader Al Marzooqi, Emirates’ Senior Vice President Flight Training, stated, "Spearheading innovation is at the core of Emirates’ DNA, and that is reflected in our newly acquired A350 training equipment suites and our advanced pilot training facility set to open later in the year."
Emirates has trained nearly 30 pilots and 820 cabin crew members so far. By late November, over 50 pilots will have completed their A350 full-flight simulator training before these aircraft enter service. The airline provides comprehensive evidence-based training conducted by experienced instructors in specially designed environments.
In June, Emirates announced a partnership with IATA and Airbus to introduce an enhanced Competency-Based Training and Assessment programme for A350 type rating. This collaboration aims to further improve pilot skills and readiness for operational challenges.
Future Growth Plans
Looking ahead, Emirates has ordered 65 A350s and 205 777Xs to support its expansion goals. These aircraft will enable the airline to launch new routes and better serve existing ones across its network. The upcoming advanced pilot training facility will span 63,318 sq.ft., accommodating six full-flight simulator bays for both A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft.
Across its pilot training facilities, Emirates will offer aviators access to 17 full flight simulators with a capacity exceeding 130,000 training hours annually. This expansion underscores Emirates' commitment to maintaining excellence in aviation training as it prepares for future growth.
