Combating Counterfeits: Eaton Middle East Launches App To Verify Genuine Electrical Products
The sale of counterfeit goods remains a growing threat globally. Authorities in various regions continue efforts to combat this issue through large-scale seizures and public awareness campaigns.
Intelligent power management company Eaton has introduced the Eaton Asset Manager application to assist the commercial and construction sectors in verifying the authenticity of electrical products. This app aims to enhance safety and compliance by ensuring that only genuine, tested, and safe electrical protection devices are used.

Counterfeit goods pose a significant global problem. The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) reported that counterfeit trade reached $509 billion in 2019, representing 3.3% of global trade. Europol's 2021 report indicates that counterfeiting is increasingly linked to organized crime, highlighting the severe risks and damages caused by these illegal activities.
Combatting Counterfeit Goods
The Middle East markets also face threats from counterfeit goods, but authorities are actively addressing this issue. The Global Organized Crime Index 2023 notes that Kuwait frequently seizes large quantities of counterfeit items, including electrical products, making it crucial for consumers to verify their purchases.
Dubai Police's Economic Crimes Department seized counterfeit goods worth approximately Dh8.7 billion (around $2.3 billion) between 2019 and 2024. Similarly, Saudi Arabia has confiscated over 41 million counterfeit items during the same period.
Counterfeit electrical products often lack essential safety components and are made from substandard materials, posing severe risks such as fire, electrocution, and potential loss of life. Businesses dealing with counterfeit products risk their reputation and face legal consequences including prosecution and imprisonment.
Qasem Noureddin, Managing Director of Eaton Middle East, stated, "Counterfeiting is a crime that endangers lives and properties. At Eaton, we are deeply committed to the fight against counterfeit products to protect our customers and their investments. We urge all stakeholders to be aware of the risks and take necessary precautions."
Simon T. Bircham, Brand Protection Manager for Eaton EMEA, remarked, "The Eaton Asset Manager app empowers users to verify the authenticity of our products easily, ensuring that they are protected against the dangers of counterfeit electrical components."
The Eaton Asset Manager mobile app will help users authenticate genuine Eaton products. By scanning a product's QR code or using the app's search functionalities, users can access product information, manage their products, and ensure they are using safe, genuine Eaton components.
