Expectations For Apple's September Event: iPhone 16, Apple Watch 10, And Beyond
Apple's highly anticipated September event is just around the corner, promising to unveil the latest innovations from the tech giant. The event, set for Sept. 9 with the tagline "It's Glowtime," is expected to showcase new iterations of popular devices including the iPhone 16, Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple AirPods 4.
The iPhone 16 series will likely be the main highlight. Reports indicate that while the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will retain their current sizes, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will feature slightly larger displays of 6.3 and 6.9 inches respectively. Additionally, these models are expected to have slimmer bezels.
iPhone 16: Key Features
One significant change across all iPhone 16 models is the introduction of the Action Button, a customisable shortcut previously exclusive to higher-end models. The camera-focused Capture Button from the iPhone 15 line is also expected to be included in this new series.
Rumours suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro might incorporate solid-state buttons that provide haptic feedback instead of physical movement. It's uncertain if the Action Button will adopt this technology as well.
The camera system on the iPhone 16 series is also a topic of speculation. Leaks hint at a stacked design for improved performance and an anti-reflective coating to reduce lens flare and ghosting. The iPhone 16 Pro series may feature a significant upgrade with a 5X telephoto zoom and an ultrawide camera resolution increase from 12MP to 48MP.
Apple Watch Series 10: Expected Upgrades
The new Apple Watch Series 10 is anticipated to come in larger sizes of 45mm and 49mm, compared to its predecessor's maximum size of 45mm. There are also reports suggesting it might be thinner than previous models.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has mentioned Apple's efforts to make its devices slimmer, starting with May's iPad Pro. While we might not see these changes in the iPhone until next year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes the Watch Series 10 will feature a thinner design.
A new magnetic system for attaching watch bands could also be introduced, although it's unclear if it will debut with this model or in future versions.
Apple Watch Ultra 3: Minor Changes
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 may not see significant design changes but could offer more case colour options and a new chip alongside the Series 10. Despite ongoing legal issues delaying some health features like blood pressure monitoring and glucose tracking, these tools remain in development.
Apple AirPods 4: New Options
The fourth generation of Apple AirPods is expected to launch in September as well. While an AirPod Pro update isn't anticipated until 2025, new mid-range and entry-level AirPods could replace current models. These new AirPods may feature updated designs, potential new colours, and USB-C charging compatibility.
The mid-range AirPods are rumoured to include active noise cancellation, a feature previously reserved for AirPods Pro.
How to Watch Apple's Event
Apple's event will begin on Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. PDT / 1 p.m. EDT. For those unable to attend in person at Apple's Cupertino headquarters, the keynote will be livestreamed on Apple's official website, via the Apple TV app, and on YouTube.
This event promises exciting updates across several product lines as Apple continues to innovate in consumer technology.
