Apple's Self-Service Repair Software Now Available In Europe For IPhone
Apple has expanded its "Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair" software to 32 European countries, including the UK, France, and Germany. Previously launched in the US, the software enables users to test their iPhone components for potential repair needs and optimal functionality. Until now, only Apple Authorised Service Providers and select independent repair providers were authorised to use this software in other countries. The company has confirmed that the software now supports iPhone, Mac, and Studio Display models.
Diagnostic capabilities for users
Before the introduction of Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair software, iPhone users had to rely on Apple Store technicians using diagnostic software to identify component issues. There was no way for users or third-party repair providers to access this software. The new diagnostics tool offers similar capabilities for users to identify problems within their devices.
Third-party components and repair services
Apple has also released a whitepaper outlining its principles for designing products with longevity in mind. The paper provides further information on how using third-party parts or repair services may impact users' experiences in the future. For example, Apple plans to allow consumers to activate True Tone with third-party parts later this year, although it currently does not work with non-Apple displays due to calibration requirements.
Starting in 2024, Apple will display battery health metrics such as maximum capacity and cycle count for devices powered by third-party batteries. However, these details will be accompanied by a notification stating that "Apple cannot verify the information presented."
