iPhone 17 Plus Display Could Be Smaller Than iPhone 15 Plus: Report

The tech industry is buzzing with anticipation as rumors about Apple's future iPhone lineup begin to surface. Despite the iPhone 16 series being months away from release, attention has already shifted towards the iPhone 17 lineup, with new speculations emerging about its design and features.

Ross Young, a noted display industry analyst, recently shared insights on social media platform X, suggesting significant changes for the iPhone 17 Plus. According to Young, this upcoming model is expected to sport a display smaller than its predecessor's 6.7-inch screen. While the exact size remains undisclosed, this adjustment hints at Apple's intention to differentiate the Plus and Pro Max models more distinctly starting with the iPhone 17 series.

Current speculations around the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models include increased screen sizes of 6.3-inches and 6.9-inches, respectively, marking a slight growth from the iPhone 15 Pro's 6.1-inch and the 15 Pro Max's 6.7-inch displays. Furthermore, a notable upgrade is anticipated in terms of storage capacity. Reports suggest that Apple plans to enhance the base storage for the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max to 256GB, eliminating the 128GB option for the smaller Pro model for the first time.

This strategic move to boost storage capacity, as mentioned by The Mac Observer, aims to align the iPhone 16 Pro with the larger Pro Max model, maintaining the starting price of $999 for the smaller Pro variant. Currently, the iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999 with 128GB of storage, while the 15 Pro Max offers 256GB starting at $1,199.

Reflecting on Apple's history of storage offerings, the iPhone X was introduced in 2018 with a base storage of 64GB. It was not until the iPhone 12 Pro in 2020 that Apple increased the minimum storage to 128GB across all its premium models. Should Apple confirm 256GB as the new standard for its upcoming premium devices, it's conceivable that this capacity could become the norm across all models by 2025.

Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are rumored to incorporate a new material designed to mitigate overheating issues encountered by their predecessors. This adaptation suggests Apple's ongoing commitment to enhancing user experience and device performance.

As the tech community eagerly awaits official announcements, these rumors about the iPhone 17 Plus and the iPhone 16 series highlight Apple's continuous efforts to innovate and refine its flagship products. With each new release, Apple aims to set new standards in the smartphone market, addressing both consumer demands and technological challenges.
