When and How to Access Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence is coming this October for the keen and impatient, but it will arrive with iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. As it were, it will currently support only US English, but Apple says by December, more English localizations will be added, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. Apple Intelligence will broaden its support to more languages by 2025, such as Chinese, Japanese, French, and Spanish.
To get started, Apple Intelligence requires an iPhone 16 model, iPhone 15 Pro, or iPhone 15 Pro Max. Join the waitlist in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Join the Waitlist starting with iOS 18.1. Timing may vary depending on availability, but most people are turned on pretty quickly. Upon its release in October, the following additional advanced features are expected to be added to Apple Intelligence, among many more:
Writing Tools: This will be highly integrated with Mail, Messages, and other apps to summarize, suggest replies, proofread texts, and even draft messages with prompts.
Photo Clean-up and Memory Movies: This feature in Photos will allow users to clean up images, create memory movies, and use natural language to make photo organization and revisiting easier.
Enhanced Focus Settings: Apple Intelligence introduces Notification Summary, Intelligent Breakthrough, and Smart Silencing to refine focus modes and block interruptions when they matter most.
Rethought Siri Experience: Siri gets the most significant revamping in design and functionality. It is now capable of doing more per request and understanding contextual hints between different apps. Hardware and Geographic Requirements of Apple Intelligence
Because it requires on-device computing through some pretty recent hardware, availability is limited to only devices with the A17 chip or M1 and above. These include the iPhone 16 models, the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPad Pro M1, and later, plus select Mac models. For now, because of chipset limitations on the standard models, only the Pro versions of the iPhone 15 are capable of access.
The rollout of Apple Intelligence is also limited in some parts geographically. It will apparently not be given access to people in China and the European Union because of regulatory hurdles.
