Mark Your Calendars: iPhone 16 And Next-Gen AirPods Reveal On September 9

Apple is anticipated to refresh its AirPods lineup by introducing two new fourth-generation models, replacing older versions. At the "It's Glowtime" event for the iPhone 16 series, Apple might unveil a standard AirPods 4 and an entry-level model to replace the second and third-generation AirPods. Additionally, a new AirPods Max headphone model could be revealed.

Expected Changes in Apple AirPods Lineup

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will likely launch two new AirPods 4 models alongside the iPhone 16 series. The report indicates that the AirPods 2 will be replaced by an entry-level AirPods 4 variant with a modern design and enhanced audio capabilities. The AirPods 3, launched in 2021, might also be replaced by a higher-end AirPods 4 variant.

Both new models are expected to share a similar design, but branding changes may occur. The higher-end model is expected to retain the AirPods 4 name, while the entry-level version might be rebranded as "AirPods Lite." These models will feature new drivers for better audio quality, but Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) technology will likely be exclusive to the higher-priced model.

Features of New AirPods Models

The entry-level AirPods might lack wireless charging but are expected to include a USB-C port for charging, similar to their more expensive counterpart. Both models aim to offer improved audio experiences with updated drivers. However, only the premium model will likely support ANC technology.

At the iPhone 16 launch event, Apple might introduce significant updates to its high-end headphones, the AirPods Max. The new model could incorporate features from the AirPods Pro due to its higher price point. The second-generation AirPods Max is expected to be powered by the H2 chip found in the current AirPods Pro 2.

Anticipated Features of AirPods Max 2

With enhanced processing power from the H2 chip, features like Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness may be included in the new AirPods Max. Adaptive Audio dynamically switches between different ANC modes based on environmental noise levels. Conversation Awareness detects conversations and lowers music volume while isolating voices for clarity.

Other potential features for the new model include head-shaking gestures for Siri responses, voice isolation during phone calls, Personalized Spatial Audio, and more. While no major cosmetic changes are expected for the second-generation AirPods Max, Apple might introduce new colour options and equip them with a USB-C port.

Future of AirPods Pro

Despite these updates, Apple is not expected to release a new top-tier AirPods Pro model this year. The next generation of AirPods Pro is anticipated in 2025. Although details are scarce, it is likely that Apple will include a new H3 processor for enhanced audio processing and additional features.

The upcoming changes in Apple's product lineup reflect their continuous efforts to enhance user experience through technological advancements. With these updates, users can expect improved performance and functionality across various models of Apple's popular wireless earbuds and headphones.
