Galgotias University and Japan: A New Era for Student Careers
Galgotias University is expanding its international footprint and bolstering India-Japan relations through its active participation in the Fuji Hydrogen Summit 2026. This engagement follows a significant visit to the Galgotias campus by a 200-member Yamanashi delegation just two months prior, with the University now connecting with the Vice Governor of Yamanashi and the President of the University of Yamanashi.
Galgotias University representatives engaged in a private session with H.E. Junichi Ishidera, Vice Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture, during the Fuji Hydrogen Summit 2026. Yamanashi, Japan, 23 October 2026: The summit provided a platform for Galgotias University to hold high-level discussions with H.E. Junichi Ishidera, Vice Governor of Yamanashi Prefecture. Beyond this, the team toured the University of Yamanashi’s research facilities and a green hydrogen plant, while also meeting with the University President. These interactions build upon the MoUs established during the 200-strong Yamanashi delegation’s visit to the Galgotias campus in August, effectively solidifying a strategic roadmap for students.
In August, the UP-Japan Investment Meet 2026 brought over 200 Japanese business leaders, CEOs, and policymakers to Uttar Pradesh, led by Yamanashi Governor Kotaro Nagasaki. Galgotias University served as the host for this delegation, a pivotal moment that advanced research, workforce, and academic cooperation between the two nations. The visit saw the formalization of an MoU with Yamanashi Prefecture and a Letter of Intent with the University of Yamanashi, focusing on green hydrogen research and workforce mobility. The robust partnership between Uttar Pradesh and Japan has flourished under the guidance of Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath. By welcoming the Yamanashi delegation to the state, he underscored Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to long-term collaboration with Japanese investors. The Chief Minister has specifically lauded the MoU between Galgotias University and Yamanashi Prefecture—the only such agreement signed by a university in Uttar Pradesh—as the institution works to translate this state-level synergy into tangible outcomes in skills, research, and education. Invited by the Yamanashi Prefectural Government, Galgotias University participated in the Summit as a strategic partner. The Indian delegation included Shri Awanish Awasthi, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, alongside officials from Invest UP, the Government of Uttar Pradesh, IOCL, various IITs, and key players from the green hydrogen sector. The event served as a nexus for the Yamanashi Prefectural Government and Japanese industry to engage with Indian counterparts on topics ranging from technology and investment to research and green hydrogen skills. While at the Summit, the Galgotias delegation also held discussions with representatives from Austria, Vietnam, Brazil, and Finland. These interactions expanded the University’s global outreach, initiating dialogues regarding potential industry and academic partnerships with each of these nations. To gain a practical understanding of operations, the Galgotias team toured a green hydrogen plant in Yamanashi. They also visited the University of Yamanashi to meet with its President and inspect research facilities. These site visits provided the team with a clear perspective on the infrastructure available to Galgotias faculty and students, as well as the potential for collaborative research and future placement opportunities. In the closed-door discussion with senior officials of the Yamanashi Prefectural Government, both sides agreed to work towards a time-bound pathway for Galgotias students. Internships in Japan would begin in the first year and continue through the second and third years, leading to job placements. Priority sectors are manufacturing, IT and technology, healthcare and hospitality. Commenting on the discussions, Dr Dhruv Galgotia, Chief Executive Officer, Galgotias University, said, "The Japanese delegation’s visit in August gave us MoUs. This visit has firmed up a strategic plan. The Hon’ble Chief Minister’s leadership in building ties between Uttar Pradesh and Japan has created the setting for this work. A student who starts an internship in Japan in the first year will reach the final year with real work experience and a clear route to a job. We will now work with Yamanashi Prefecture and the University of Yamanashi to put dates and numbers against this plan." The two sides also discussed a Japanese Culture Centre at the Galgotias University campus. The Centre would support Japanese language and cultural learning and prepare students for education, internships and careers in Japan. Together with joint work on green hydrogen research, it would give both countries a pool of skilled people who understand each other’s industries.
