Zayed University Becomes First UAE Institution To Join Digital Education Council For AI Literacy

Zayed University (ZU) has become a member of the Digital Education Council (DEC), joining over 90 global institutions. This community focuses on enhancing AI literacy and promoting responsible digital transformation in education. ZU is the first UAE university to join, aligning with its strategic vision to prepare students and faculty for a digital future. This membership supports ZU's ongoing efforts to integrate AI across its curriculum and faculty development.

Starting this summer, ZU will implement two DEC initiatives: the Certificate in AI for Higher Education and the AI Literacy for Students programme. These initiatives aim to enhance digital fluency among faculty, leadership, and students. Professor Michael Allen, Acting Vice President of Zayed University, stated, "Integrating artificial intelligence across our work is vital to building digital fluency at Zayed University."

The College of Technological Innovation (CTI) at ZU is set to introduce a Bachelor of Science in Intelligent Systems Engineering this Fall. This programme aims to equip future engineers with skills to design and manage intelligent systems using AI and emerging technologies. The initiative reflects the growing demand for advanced digital skills both nationally and globally.

In addition to undergraduate offerings, CTI will launch two new Master’s programmes in Cybersecurity and Digital Transformation and Innovation. These programmes are designed to meet the increasing need for specialised expertise in these fields. They align with ZU's commitment to providing education that responds to current technological trends.

Professor Allen highlighted the benefits of joining DEC, saying it allows ZU to engage with a global network of educational leaders. He added that the real impact lies in applying these insights within classrooms and programmes, ultimately preparing students for future challenges.

The DEC membership represents a significant step in ZU's journey towards integrating AI into its educational framework. By participating in this global community, ZU aims to contribute to and benefit from shared knowledge on digital education advancements.

As part of its broader strategy, ZU continues to innovate its curriculum and pedagogy, ensuring alignment with future work demands. The university's focus on digital transformation underscores its dedication to equipping students with essential skills for success in an increasingly digital world.
