GCC States Consistently Seek To Enhance Global Security And Stability Through Cooperation
GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi stressed that stability in the Gulf is now central to global security and the world economy. Albudaiwi noted that recent regional events show how developments in Gulf waters and nearby routes affect international trade, energy flows, and wider geopolitical balances, including those impacting European partners.
Albudaiwi explained that Gulf security has shifted from a regional concern to a shared international responsibility. Any disruption in the Gulf and surrounding maritime corridors is felt directly in Europe through energy markets, supply chains, and financial stability, he said, linking regional calm to broader global confidence and economic resilience.

The secretary-general said GCC member states work constantly to strengthen security, stability, development, and prosperity. These efforts aim to protect the interests of people in the Gulf region and beyond. Albudaiwi pointed to fast-moving geopolitical shifts, plus mounting security and economic pressures, as reasons for deeper cooperation with international partners.
Speaking in Prague, Albudaiwi took part in a panel on GCC-European strategic links at the GLOBSEC Global Security Forum 2026. During the session, Albudaiwi highlighted that European and Middle Eastern security are now tightly linked, with events in Gulf waters and energy routes reflecting directly in European economies and societies.
The secretary-general said recent regional crises had strongly affected local security and stability. He underlined that GCC countries have continued diplomatic action to reduce escalations and defuse tensions. According to Albudaiwi, Gulf states prioritise dialogue and political channels to protect regional security, maintain stability, and safeguard the safety of populations across member states.
Albudaiwi emphasised the need to secure air and sea routes, maintain free navigation, and protect supply chains. He said safeguarding the stability of global energy markets remains a central task. "The stability of the Gulf region remains a fundamental pillar for the stability of the global economy and international maritime security," he reiterated.
Albudaiwi described the participation of the GCC General Secretariat at the Prague forum as part of a wider outreach. "The GCC General Secretariat’s participation in the GLOBSEC Global Security Forum 2026 embodies its keenness to maintain an active presence in regional and international forums. This engagement aims to bolster communication and exchange perspectives with international partners, decision-makers, and experts, thereby supporting efforts to maintain regional and international security while keeping pace with rapid global changes."
Discussing future GCC-European ties, Albudaiwi said both sides seek stronger cooperation across many sectors. He noted that the forthcoming GCC-EU Summit is expected to deepen joint work and serve shared interests, adding that both parties attach importance to concrete outcomes that support GCC security, Gulf stability, and long-term collaboration between the two regions.
