Zayed Port To Welcome Mubadala Abu Dhabi Sail Grand Prix With 12 National Teams Competing

Abu Dhabi will host the Grand Final of SailGP's 2025 season at Zayed Port on 29th and 30th November. The event, organised by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, will feature 12 national teams racing F50 foiling catamarans that can exceed speeds of 100 km/h. This marks the final stop in the championship's fifth season, following events in cities like Dubai, Auckland, Sydney, and Los Angeles.

The competition includes teams from Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland, Brazil, Italy and the United States. A press conference was held at Surf Abu Dhabi on Hudayriyat Island with notable attendees such as Sheikh Hamdan bin Sultan bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Qubaisi from the Abu Dhabi Sports Council. Also present were SailGP CEO Russell Coutts and Mubadala's Umayma Abubaker.

Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Qubaisi expressed pride in hosting the Grand Final during UAE’s 54th Eid Al Etihad celebrations. He stated that this event underscores Abu Dhabi's status as a premier sports destination with infrastructure to support major international events. The strategic partnership with Mubadala and SailGP enhances the emirate’s global sporting profile.

Over two days, all 12 teams will compete in fleet races. The top three teams will advance to a winner-takes-all Grand Final for the season title and a US$2 million prize. Dr. Al Qubaisi highlighted that last year's event drew thousands of fans and anticipates another thrilling weekend of sailing and entertainment for spectators of all ages.

The presence of team drivers like Martine Grael (Brazil), Phil Robertson (Canada), Erik Heil (Germany), Taylor Canfield (United States), Diego Botín (Spain), Dylan Fletcher (Emirates Great Britain), Peter Burling (New Zealand) and Tom Slingsby (Australia) adds to the excitement surrounding this prestigious event.

Abu Dhabi's hosting of this significant championship finale not only celebrates its sporting prowess but also strengthens its position on the global stage as a hub for world-class events.
