New Accessible Outdoor Games Project Launched By Zayed Organisation For The Disabled
The Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination (ZHO) has recently unveiled an initiative aimed at enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families through the provision of accessible and equipped outdoor games. This initiative, which spans across three care and rehabilitation centres located in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Ghayathi, is supported by the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority. Its primary goal is to establish recreational spaces designed to meet the diverse needs of various disabilities, thereby fostering active engagement in sports activities and the development of sensory skills.
This project aligns with the global "World of Kindness" initiative, which focuses on promoting effective education, culture and identity, and the development of sustainable and family-friendly cities. It plays a crucial role in transforming Abu Dhabi into an inclusive and accessible city for people with disabilities by ensuring they have equal access to rights, services, and opportunities. The outdoor games installed at these centres have been carefully selected to cater to the different categories of beneficiaries.

The project's inauguration saw attendance from representatives of both ZHO and the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority. Abdullah Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of ZHO, lauded the UAE's commitment to developing infrastructure that accommodates people with disabilities. He expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the authority and underscored the significance of sharing successful experiences in empowering and integrating people with disabilities into society. The installation of these outdoor games marks a pivotal move towards inclusivity and enhancing life quality for this community segment.
Al Hammadi also stressed the importance of designing outdoor games that are accessible and safe for everyone, highlighting the need for awareness initiatives that educate the public about disabilities and ensure infrastructure safety and accessibility. He pointed out that adapting environments to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities is essential for their integration and fostering a sense of belonging.
Sanaa Mohammed Suhail, General Manager of the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, praised ZHO's efforts in empowering children with disabilities and integrating them into society. She emphasized the necessity of cooperation among various entities to create an inclusive environment for people with disabilities. Developing appropriate recreational facilities is crucial for their well-being, social participation, and in promoting values of understanding and respect.
The project targets families and children residing near the Al Ain Centre for Autism and Ghayathi Centre for Care and Rehabilitation. It aims to boost the physical and mental health of individuals with disabilities through engaging in outdoor physical activities that enhance fitness, well-being, and promote social interaction. This initiative is instrumental in reducing social isolation and encouraging societal integration.
Moreover, this initiative not only aids in developing essential skills such as balance, coordination, and strength but also fosters independence, self-confidence, and environmental awareness among participants. It offers them opportunities to interact with nature while raising awareness about environmental conservation.
In conclusion, Zayed Higher Organisation for People of Determination's project significantly contributes to creating inclusive recreational areas for people with disabilities in Abu Dhabi. It underscores the commitment to integrating them into society while improving their well-being and skills through thoughtfully designed outdoor games and activities.
