Zayed International Airport Achieves ACI Level 2 Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation For Inclusive Travel
Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) has made notable strides in enhancing accessibility for all travelers, a commitment recognized by achieving Level 2 of the Airports Council International (ACI) Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation.
This accomplishment not only signifies AUH's dedication to inclusive travel but also marks a step forward from its previous Level 1 accreditation in 2024. By focusing on a comprehensive accessibility plan, including a governance framework and extensive training, AUH has shown its commitment to improving the travel experience for passengers with disabilities through both digital and universal design principles.

Elena Sorlini, managing director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, stated, "Eighteen months ago, we opened Zayed International Airport with a bold vision to create a world-class gateway that truly welcomes every guest. Achieving Level 2 Accessibility Accreditation, building on our Level 1 accreditation from 2024, proves we are delivering on that promise.
"This recognition belongs to our incredible team, who understood from day one that accessibility is fundamental to who we are as Abu Dhabi's aviation gateway and reflects the UAE's values of inclusion and dignity for all."
AUH's focus extends beyond physical enhancements to include digital advancements, making its online platforms more accessible to users with varying needs. The airport's website adheres to the WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines and features Recite Me technology, which aids people with visual and learning difficulties by providing tools such as text-to-speech and on-page translation in over 100 languages. These initiatives demonstrate AUH's commitment to creating a user-friendly online experience that supports inclusivity and boosts confidence among all passengers.
By integrating inclusive design, services, and policies into its operations, AUH goes above the standard requirements for accessibility. The airport has undertaken significant efforts to raise disability awareness among its employees, stakeholders, and partners.
Training programmes ensure that the staff are well-equipped to assist travelers of all abilities, aligning with the UAE Digital Accessibility Policy, UAE Federal Law 29 on the Rights of People with Special Needs, and the National Policy for Empowering People of Determination.
Moreover, AUH's engagement with disability advocacy groups and individuals with disabilities plays a vital role in shaping an inclusive airport experience. Listening to and incorporating feedback from people of determination ensures that the airport remains attuned to the needs and expectations of all travelers, reinforcing its position as a leader in accessible aviation.
AUH's recent achievement underlines its ongoing efforts to promote equality, dignity, and an inclusive environment for all passengers. The airport's dedication to enhancing accessibility at every level, from operational changes to digital innovations, sets a benchmark for inclusive travel experiences, ensuring that every journey through AUH is seamless, respectful, and welcoming.
