Zayed Bin Mohamed Launches 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship With Global Participation
The 17th Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship has commenced at Mubadala Arena, Abu Dhabi. The event is under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi. H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurated the championship, which runs until 22nd November 2025.
H.H. Sheikh Zayed attended the opening day's competitions and honoured winners in the Amateur category. He emphasised that the championship is a platform for discovering talent and nurturing champions. His Highness noted that the event aligns with leadership's vision to advance jiu-jitsu, support athletes, and strengthen the UAE’s global sporting presence.
The championship attracts over 10,000 international athletes, making it a significant event on the global jiu-jitsu calendar. The competition began with the Amateur category on 12th November. The Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, featuring events for children of various ages, takes place from 13-15 November alongside Para Jiu-Jitsu competitions on 13th November.
Youth and Junior categories will compete from 16-17 November, followed by Master events from 18-19 November. The championship will conclude with Professional competitions from 20-22 November.
Abdulmonem Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and President of the Ju-Jitsu Asian Union, expressed gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Khaled for their support. He highlighted that their backing has positioned the UAE as a model for developing jiu-jitsu globally.
He stated, "The inauguration of the 17th edition of the championship by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reflects the leadership’s commitment to preparing a generation of champions capable of raising the UAE flag at major international tournaments, in line with a national vision that invests in people and their potential."

The growing popularity of jiu-jitsu in the UAE is attributed to its promotion of discipline, determination, and character among youth. H.H. Sheikh Zayed highlighted these values as essential for building a generation capable of representing the UAE proudly in regional and international arenas.
The championship serves as a global platform uniting cultures and inspiring talent while showcasing the UAE’s reputation as a leading sports destination where professional organisation meets values like respect and peace.
