Advanced Labs Guarantee Zamzam Water's Purity And Safety
Makkah, SPA – In a significant move to ensure the safety and purity of Zamzam water, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque has established a dedicated laboratory for analyzing this sacred water. The laboratory oversees all sterilization stages, employing ultraviolet rays for sterilization without the addition of chemical substances. This meticulous process guarantees that Zamzam water retains its natural color, taste, and smell while eradicating 99.77% of bacteria and viruses. Remarkably, one kilowatt of electricity is sufficient to sterilize 12,000 gallons of water.
To further safeguard the purity of Zamzam water, several precautionary measures are in place. The water is pumped from the Zamzam well into a closed circuit system consisting of rustproof (stainless steel) pipes and fully enclosed tanks equipped with filters. These filters are crucial in blocking sands and impurities, thus preventing any chemical reaction or microbiological activity. Following this, Zamzam water undergoes initial sterilization processes before it is transported to the Grand Mosque. At this stage, it passes through additional filters to eliminate any residues and undergoes another round of UV sterilization.

Specialized laboratories carry out detailed analyses of Zamzam water to detect any chemical or microbiological pollutants. Ensuring the health and safety of those involved in distributing Zamzam water is also a priority. The authority mandates health certificates for all personnel to confirm they are free from infectious diseases. Moreover, there is a continuous cleaning protocol for the bases on which Zamzam water containers are placed.
The Zamzam water department at the Grand Mosque has been meticulously overseeing the Zamzam well since 1400 Hijri. It is committed to providing cooled and continuous access to Zamzam water through over 20,000 containers within the Grand Mosque premises. This number sees an increase during Ramadan and the Hajj seasons to accommodate the heightened demand. Additionally, there are 1,073 Zamzam water taps available for pilgrims, supplemented by 223 tanks during the peak seasons. The cooling of Zamzam water is efficiently managed at Al-Qashashiah cooling station, ensuring that pilgrims have access to refreshing Zamzam water throughout their spiritual journey.
This comprehensive approach to managing and distributing Zamzam water underscores the commitment of the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque towards maintaining the sanctity and purity of this blessed resource. Through advanced sterilization techniques and rigorous safety measures, pilgrims and visitors can continue to partake in the spiritual nourishment provided by Zamzam water with assurance and peace.
